The quaint village houses in Polop remind people of the times that Polop could only be reached by mules. Surrounded by greenery at the bottom of the mountain ? El Ponoch?, it was and is famous for its clear well water which runs from the fountains in the centre of the town. In the past Polop was an important barony which controlled the crossroads at what are now the towns of La Nucia and Callosa d?Ensarria. The past history of Polop consists of the well-known intermingling of Moorish and Christian cultures which are reflected in the village houses in the area.
